This Friday, Chingari, a desi alternative to TikTok crossed 10 million downloads on Google Playstore. It has now become one of the top two free downloaded apps on Playstore, and it has retained its position for over a week now.

Chingari is a desi video-sharing app that is quite similar to Chinese TikTok. Chingari was launched after TikTok got banned in India. In a short time, it started filling up the space left behind by TikTok. With over 10 million downloads, it is now the best desi alternative to TikTok for all content creators.

Biswatma Nayak, the co-founder of Chingari said that they have been witnessing a sharp rise in the app’s daily engagement. He also mentioned that the app’s retention number has increased in the last year.

Chingari’s team is working 24/7 to improve the app and deliver a seamless experience to users. Previously, the app reached the 3 million downloads mark in just 10 days. It also achieved 500,000 downloads in just 3 days.

Sumit Ghosh, the Co-founder and CPO of Chingari said that they are looking forward to having all TikTok users onboard. Chingari is a 100% Indian app and they want everyone to try it out.

For user convenience, the app is available in different Indian regional languages like Hindi, Gujarati, Bangla, Marathi, Tamil, Kannada, Telegu, Punjabi, and Malayalam. Besides these, the app also supports the English language.

Amid Sino-Indian border tension, the Indian government took the drastic decision of banning 59 Chinese apps. This decision was taken to safeguard user privacy. However, this also gave Indian developers to launch and promote homegrown apps.

The popular Chinese apps that were banned included TikTok, UC Browser, SHAREit, Shein, Baidu map, Clash of Kings, Helo, DU Battery Saver, Apus Browser, Likee, Mi Community, YouCam makeup, Virus Cleaner, CM Browsers among others.

TikTok, which was the product of a Chinese company called ByteDance, had over 200 million users in India. But after the apps were banned, TikTok was taken down from all mobile app stores.

During this time apps like Chingari were launched to accommodate 200 million content creators and give them a platform to share their short videos.

Chingari is continuously working to improve the user experience. The company aims to get all TikTok users to try their app.
